Petroceramics is an Italian SME founded in 2003 by the CEO Massimiliano Valle as a spin-off of the University of Milan.  The Company has as minority shareholders the University of Milan and Brembo S.p.A., an acknowledged world leader in the field of automotive brake technology.

Profiting of excellent facilities and solid technological know-how, Petroceramics is today one of the most advanced companies in Europe in the field of advanced technical ceramics materials for various sectors such as automotive, defense and bio-medical applications, and wants to become in the near future a leading firm in this market segment.

Petroceramics business is focused on design and development of technological and highly innovative solutions, both products and processes, at prototype or pilot scale level. The company has exploited several  successful solutions for a number of challenging technological problems, such as: development of continuous processes for ceramic matrix composites (innovative 3D preforming, HT2 silicon infiltration method), novel zirconia oxygen sensors, nitridation processes of silicon, oxygen getters for gas purification and Cr-bearing refractories.

The Petroceramics’ Labs are equipped with the most advanced technologies for characterization of materials microstructure (JEOL low-vacuum scanning electron microscope with EDS analysis; X-ray powder diffractometer) and thermo-mechanical characterization, as well as machines for ceramics and carbo-ceramic composites processing.
